Another case of sexual harassment and retaliation
Such is the experience of three women workers of Help at Home, Inc. This Chicago-based healthcare provider is set to pay damages worth $302,500 as settlement for a lawsuit filed by the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) against them. According to the company’s three women workers namely Shanhnon Schroeter, Kari McConnel, and Jaclyn Stone complained about sexual harassment and retaliation against Help at Hoime Area Manager Christine Qualls.
How can a woman harass a woman?
According to the charge made by the 3 female employees, Qualls have made sexual comments and propositions to the three. The manager also openly engaged in sexual activities with her girlfriend while she was in the office. After the 3 workers sent an e-mail to the Ron Ford, the company’s Chief Executive, the company’s Regional Vice President, Rick Cantrell came over to investigate. Not long after Stone was demoted, McConnel and Schroeter were both discharged at different times. On the other hand Qualls got away with her acts with no sanction at all.
A clear violation of existing anti-harassment and retaliation laws
Help at Home Inc. management, through its acts have violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Under this law, anybody in the workplace cannot discriminate nor sexually harass anyone. Moreover, a Los Angeles wrongful termination lawyer reminds employers that they can retaliate against an employee that files a complaint or participates in the investigation of a discrimination or harassment complaint.
Doing the right thing
Sexual harassment can happen to anybody, whether if you’re a man, a woman, a gay, lesbian, transgender, or bisexual. If you happen to have been through a similar experience as the 3 victims mentioned, you too can fight for your rights and get those people who’d harass, discriminate, or retaliate against you by filing a complaint against the offenders. Just ask for the help of a Los Angeles attorney and you can start the ball of justice rolling. However, after filing such complaint, you must remember to be strong and never give up the fight as this is the only way that you can prevail against those who abused, harassed, discriminated, or retaliated against you. It takes one victim to stand up and fight to start a complaint. On the other hand, it takes one’s strong will and determination to win it.
